The Blues midfielder Mount watched the final victory over Bayern Munich with his family and is relishing the chance to make his debut in the competition.
As he prepares for a potential Champions League debut against Valencia on Tuesday night, Mason Mount has revealed how he is inspired by Chelsea’s 2012 triumph in the competition.
Chelsea overcame Bayern Munich in a penalty shoot-out in the final seven years ago after Didier Drogba’s 88th-minute header from a Frank Lampard corner cancelled out Thomas Muller’s goal.
Mount was then a 13-year-old wearing his Chelsea shirt at home and watching the game with his family as Drogba dispatched the winning penalty.
"It is a historic night in the club’s history, I was at home with my family watching it," Mount said of the final. "I remember every part of the game, Drogba scoring the header and then the winning pen, brilliant night.
"Watching that as a kid, it gives you the extra fire and the goal to want to play in the Champions League because you have seen what the club has done before. I might have had my Chelsea top on. As soon as the game had finished, [it was] straight to bed because I probably had school the next day.
"I just remember all the family watching it and how excited we were, what a game, and you see all the celebrations after and how much it means to everyone, it means so much, and that is something in the history books for Chelsea.
"We have got to start this one off with a win. You have always got to set goals and that was definitely one of my goals to start this season. It was always to come back to Chelsea and work hard to get into the team.
"I knew the Champions League games were coming up so you have always got to set goals and I think you have got to work very hard to try and achieve that. It has been going well and hopefully I can start the next game.
"It is a dream to play in the Champions League and, for me playing in it with Chelsea, it is a massive game. You always want to get that first game under your belt and get that first three points."

I’m loving Mount, but it’s hard to say he is better than Maddison. Even in the last match, Maddison was probably better over the full 90 and should have bagged the winner
Please guy are they of the same age?

He still has some holes defensively because he’s spent the majority of his career playing CM until he made the senior squad at RB, so he still has some CM habits that he needs to kick, like on long balls over the top to his side, he doesn’t always track back fully because he’s used to having support behind when he was a midfielder. He’s getting better and better defensively as time goes on though definitely
hahaha ya what are you talking about??? 😂

Started being towards the end of last season, didn't it? He started our last three home games, including against Spurs and Leicester in a run-in where we couldn't afford to drop points.

Expect chilwell to be back next game, so he'll probably be starter

He really flies under the radar. I'm a massive fan of him despite us playing him out of position every week. Works so hard and is technically superb.

Mount's been much better for England than Alli in recent years. Mount hasn't even played a senior game.

Mount has almost recovered. He'll play the next match, most probably.

On recent by form Mount has been better than Alli I think but Alli has played at a higher level than Mount ever has.

I think Mount fills such a unique role that it's difficult to say. Mount at his best is exceptional, but his recent form (toward the end of last season) hasn't been fantastic though. I hope he'll come in to this season at his best.

Still needs to work on his hold up, that's for sure. But what's most important he finds himself in position to receive passes from teammates - makes forward runs, has good positioning in the box to meet the cross. And most important is clinical with the chances he gets.

I think his hold up play has been one of the main highlights aside from his goals. For such a tall guy, he’s really slim and I was worried he’d be bullied by premier league cb’s but for the most part he’s holding his own and linking with Mount really well.

C'mon man, Drogba literally won the golden boot in one of his seasons.

Transfer ban plus frank though another manager could easily have started with mount

but for a striker with his amount of minutes, his scoring record was average (bar arsenal and finals)
