Martin Keown has reminded Manchester United fans that 'it's only the League Cup' after the Red Devils beat Newcastle 2-0.
Ten Hag's side took command of the Carabao Cup final when Casemiro headed in a brilliant Luke Shaw cross to give United the lead.
A deflected Rashford strike doubled United's advantage and put them in complete control as they saw the game out.
The win ended the Red Devils' six-year wait for a trophy but it seems Keown remains slightly unimpressed.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Keown said: 'A lot of people are raving about Manchester United, and the United fans are going to say "ah, typical Keown", but let's look at the League Cup and look at who they beat.
'So they beat Burnley at home, they beat Charlton at home, they beat Forest when they were way bottom of the table, not the best of teams. And now they are champions, they have won the Carabao Cup.'
United beat Aston Villa 4-2 in the third round of the Carabao Cup, Ten Hag's side then hosted Burnley and won 2-0, before beating Charlton 3-0 at home in the quarter-finals.
The Red Devils then faced Nottingham Forest in their semi-final and won with an incredibly convincing 5-0 win over the two legs.
Despite Keown's reminder, the former Arsenal defender does believe Manchester United are heading in the right direction.
Keown added: 'People are now talking about quadruples. Let's have a look at this in six weeks' time. If they keep winning like they are, no doubt they can push for the title.
'There's team spirit, leaders are forming, you can see the character in the side. But it is only one trophy, it's only the League Cup.'
Manchester United legend Gary Neville was far more enthusiastic about the cup final victory than his fellow pundit.
Neville said: 'Huge day for Manchester United. Casemiro is at the heart of it but really it's about one man having transformed this team from whiners into winners in such a short period of time Erik ten Hag - what a job that he's done.
'They've got a spirit, they've got a fight and they've got a real chance of coming back and winning trophies beyond this again because you can see something emerging with him.'
The Red Devils' next game is an FA Cup clash against West Ham and it gives the side a chance to progress in another cup competition.

A cup is still a cup.. a trophy is still a trophy.. regardless how big is the competition.. because to be able to lift and kiss that cup/trophy , there's a lot of sweat, blood, and many more things that you have to sacrificed for it.. and (even if that is "just" The League Cup ) not many team luckily enough to have the chance to win it..

This Keown don't know anything always talking trash, if Manchester united didn't win it they will still be the first to criticize them, which one is who they beat bla blah blah, in football you only Play who's in front of you, you cannot have a match with Chelsea and you say know you want Bayern, if any of those clubs managed knock out Man united they will crucify them for losing to small team, this life no really balance, you win, you are in trouble you lose you are also in trouble, hypocrites everywhere
