Ivan Toney has been heavily linked with a move in the upcoming January transfer window and the Brentford striker has already dropped a hint about which clubs he would like to join.
Toney is currently serving an eight-month ban for breaching FA betting rules, but will be able to return to playing from January 16. The likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United have all been linked with a move for the 27-year-old, who scored 20 Premier League goals in 33 games for Brentford last season.
He joined super agent Jonathan Barnett's CAA Stellar agency back in August and has spoken openly of his desire to move to a bigger club and "compete for trophies". And in an appearance on the Diary of a CEO podcast, Toney hinted that Arsenal and Liverpool are two clubs he would be particularly interested in joining.
"Everyone wants to play at the top of the tree," Toney said. "Not that Brentford aren't there, but everyone wants to play for these big clubs and compete for trophies. If a chance was to come along, I would be silly not to look into it.
"The manager knows that I want to play at the highest level possible and whenever that time comes, so be it. My time at Brentford has been probably the best of my career. The next club I go to will be the right club.
"I am a Liverpool fan my whole life. I have liked Arsenal from young, how they play and how passionate their fans are. But I'm a Liverpool boy, Liverpool fan at heart."
However, recent reports have claimed that Brentford have slapped a £100million price tag on Toney. Bees boss Thomas Frank admitted in an appearance on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football in September that they would consider selling Toney, but only for the "right price".
"I think every club in the world is a selling club apart from five or six clubs. We are a selling club if the right price is there," he said. "I think it's the right timing for the player to go, that is not my decision in the end. If they build well with us on this journey, and now prove they are good enough to go to the top clubs, but for the right price.
"Yes, it does apply to him too (Toney), I understand why there are a lot of rumours out there, for me, as a striker and a number nine, I don’t see many others better than him in the world. You have [Harry] Kane, Robert [Lewandowski], and [Erling] Haaland, but not many scored 20 goals in the Premier League for a very good Brentford side of course, we are not creating as many chances as the top six teams, so imagine him in a top team, he would easily score 20/25 goals.
"I think he's composed, a good mentality, a good finisher so I can see why clubs are looking at him. But, he's a Brentford player, and if other clubs want to come, in today's market, the prices for number six players, we know that attacking players are the most expensive ones so I guess that will be very expensive."
