Jack Wilshere will resume his battle for fitness next week.
The 27-year-old midfield star signed for West Ham on a free transfer from Arsenal in the summer.
He described it as a dream move but injuries to both ankles have turned it into a nightmare.
Since August, Wilshere has played only five matches for the Hammers - all in the Premier League - and his career has been severely disrupted by injury at both Arsenal and West Ham.
His ability made him an iconic figure to Arsenal fans and it was hoped he would reach iconic status at the Emirates.
Wilshere has also won 34 caps for England - but many feel he should have passed the 50 mark by now but for a career fragmented because of injuries.
Since moving to West Ham, he has had surgery on one ankle and then during an attempted comeback had another enforced lay-off because of pain in the other ankle. Now he is set to resume light training on Monday with a closely-monitored programme.
The plan is for the intensity to increase so that Wilshere could be ready to play again in possible four weeks but, more likely, six weeks.
That could put him in line for a comeback at first team level for the matches against either Fulham or Manchester City towards the end of February.

Hopefully West ham put a performance or playing clause in his contract. Some of their signings have been strange down the years. For every di canio there was 3 or 4 duds.

Like Andy Murray, it's time to retire before you end up crippled. He's made millions by being a bit-part player for many years. These kind of injuries never allow full recovery and leave you vulnerable for the next one. Grow a brain Jack.. pack it in and do your coaching badges.

Jokes aside surely a doc should be telling him to retire before he ends up in a wheelchair for life. He has a young family it's defo time to hang them up.
