Jamie Carragher has identified one Chelsea star that he'd 'love Liverpool to sign', claiming the player is a 'special talent'.
On Monday Night Football, the former Liverpool defender hit out at Chelsea's board for their transfer policy, insisting that the Blues had to 'stop buying players and players needed to stop signing for the club.'
'If I was a player, I would look at that Chelsea project and say: "Why would you sign?' he told Sky Sports.
The Monday Night Football pundit added he was baffled at why anyone would want to compete for a place in Enzo Maresca's squad, with multiple players vying for a handful of positions.
During the programme, Carragher and Gary Neville also identified their impact signings of the summer, with the ex-Liverpool defender stating that he wished his former club had signed Pedro Neto.
The Portuguese winger joined the west London outfit in a £54million deal on August 11 and is one of nine signings Chelsea have made during the summer window, with the club anticipating more arrivals before the end of the transfer window.
Carragher lumped praise on the former Wolves star for his lightning speed and excellent technical ability, before stating that he hoped Chelsea could keep the 24-year-old fit.
'The reason I’ve chosen him is because I think, but for injuries, I think this is a player that could play for the best teams in the world – I really do believe that,' the ex-Liverpool defender said to Sky Sports.
'He’s a player I have always watched for Wolves in the last three or four years, who I’ve always thought, ‘I’d love Liverpool to sign him’.
'I just look at the pace and the quality on the ball, he scores goals, and I just hope he stays fit.
'My only worry for Chelsea is that he is best on the right, cutting in on that left foot - probably where Cole Palmer likes to play as well.
'I think if Chelsea could keep him fit, I think he’s a special talent and he’s a player that I love to watch, and I actually get down a little bit when I hear he’s injured, even though Wolves are not my team.
'But I'd love to see him stay fit as I think he's one of the top players in the Premier League.
Neto has signed a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge but has struggled with injuries in the past 12 months. Before being named in Roberto Martinez's Euro 2024 squad to play in Germany, Neto featured 20 times in the Premier League last season for Wolves, having been sidelined with multiple hamstring injuries.
Maresca's side have also reached an agreement to sign his compatriot Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid for £42m - who would become their tenth addition this summer.
Liverpool, meanwhile, have not been as active in the transfer market this summer, with the Reds failing to land their main summer target Martín Zubimendi turning down a move to join the Anfield club, despite giving Arne Slot's side his word he'd join the Reds.
Liverpool have several top wingers on their books already but could be keen to draft in a future replacement for Mohamed Salah, with the winger's contract set to expire in 2025.
Reds fans are hopeful their Egyptian forward will sign a new deal to extend his contract at the club. But speculation has grown over his future in the last six months, following links over a move to Saudi Arabia.
Neville said that his impact signing of the summer was Dominic Solanke, who joined Tottenham in a £65m deal from Bournemouth.
But on Monday night, the forward failed to put away a couple of chances during his side's 1-1 draw against Leicester at the King Power Stadium.
