Jamie Vardy 'agrees one-year contract extension with Leicester' to keep him at the club until 2023

Jamie Vardy has agreed to sign a new one year contract with Leicester City, keeping him at the King Power Stadium until 2023.

Leicester are expected to announce the new deal - which will take Vardy beyond his 36th birthday - on Wednesday, according to The Telegraph.

Having won last season’s Premier League Golden Boot with 23 goals, the confirmation of Vardy’s future will delight manager Brendan Rodgers as the departure of Ben Chilwell to Chelsea expected in the next 48 hours.

Since signing from then non-league Fleetwood Town for £1million, Vardy has represented his country, scored in the Champions League, won the Premier League and netted 126 goals in 300 appearances for the club.

Despite his age, Vardy has not only become one of the sharpest strikers in the Premier League, he has also entered into the exclusive 100 goal club.

Vardy was the 29th player to join that exclusive club after he scored Leicester’s opening goal against Crystal Palace last season.

Finishing as the league’s top goal-scorer ahead of Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang, Danny Ings and Raheem Sterling will fill Rodgers with confidence for the coming season.

Leicester have also agreed terms with England international James Maddison, who has signed a four-year contract with the club.
