Chelsea still have plenty of players that need to be sold by the club in order to give Mauricio Pochettino his dream squad at Stamford Bridge
Chelsea could make a whopping £72million if John Terry copies Steven Gerrard's plan to help a former side in the transfer market. The Blues legend is on the verge of becoming Al-Shabab manager just days after the Saudi Arabian transfer window slammed shut.
Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard helped his former side out by signing Jordan Henderson for Al Ettifaq from the Reds in a £12million deal - a fee they would have struggled to recoup from any European side. Chelsea still possesses a bloated squad under Mauricio Pochettino, but Terry could help the Blues reduce that if several of their current players could join up with Terry in Saudi Arabia.
Pochettino has already admitted he wants to work with a squad size of around 20-22 players - with his current team featuring around 28-30 players. This could see as many as six players leave the club in the next 12 months - with some still set to return after season-long loan spells in the 2023/24 campaign.
Five players have been linked with exits from Stamford Bridge over the course of the summer - and Terry may look to use the financial power in Saudi to help Chelsea reduce their squad size. Malang Sarr is not a part of Pochettino's plans - but the French defender failed to secure a switch away from the club before the transfer deadline.
Ian Maatsen refused to return to Burnley after the Blues agreed an initial loan deal - with an option to buy clause for £31.5million included next summer - but a move to Saudi Arabia may be on the cards as the Dutch defender has 12 months on his contract at the end of the season. Marc Cucurella saw a loan move to Manchester United collapse this week - as well as rejecting the likes of RB Leipzig, Atletico Madrid and Sevilla, but Chelsea are open to a permanent transfer for the Spanish defender.
Romelu Lukaku and Hakim Ziyech will want permanent exits from Stamford Bridge when they return from their loan spells at Roma and Galatasaray, respectively. The two players were exiled by Pochettino this summer and will both be sold next summer.
Whether any of the players would be open to a move to Saudi Arabia remains to be seen, but the wages they could be offered may tempt them - as has been the case with the likes of N'Golo Kante, Fabinho, Henderson, Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar and Karim Benzema. CIES Football Observatory has valued all five Chelsea stars at around £72million - which could be reinvested into a brilliant signing by Pochettino if Terry funds all five moves.
Malang Sarr - €10million (£8.5m)
Marc Cucurella - €20million (£17.1m)
Romelu Lukaku - €30million (£25.7m)
Hakim Ziyech - €10million (£8.5m)
Ian Maatsen - €15million (£12.8m)
