John Terry leaves Aston Villa
Former Chelsea defender John Terry has left Aston Villa’s managerial team.
Having retired from his playing days at Aston Villa he joined Dean Smith’s coaching setup.
Having been with them from their promotion from the Championship, EPL relegation survival and more recently an established mid-table Premier League finish, Terry leaves with a glut of experience under his belt.
In a statement on the Villa website John wrote the following message:
‘It has been a tremendous honour and privilege to have spent these last three years at Aston Villa, but I feel now is the right time to make the extremely difficult decision to move on.
‘I want to be as respectful to the manager and everyone at Aston Villa as I can and, having given my future serious consideration over the summer, I genuinely don’t feel it is fair to move into a new season without being certain of seeing that through.
‘My immediate plan is to spend some quality time with my family and, thereafter, hopefully take up some invitations to visit clubs and managers around Europe to develop my aim and objective of becoming a manager.’
Terry went on to thank members of staff and players who have been with him on his first journey into coaching.
Where could he end up?
Prior to his departure, Terry was linked with a move to Bournemouth when the managerial role was available.
He was touted to be one of the candidates alongside Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira.
However, Vieira has now taken the job at Crystal Palace, which was the last remaining job open at the time.
He says his aim is to travel and work with others but should a job come up in the Premier League or Championship, it is likely Terry will certainly put himself forward for the role.
Where that could be though is anyone’s guess.
