John Terry has wished Frank Lampard well after his former teammate returned to Chelsea as caretaker manager.
The 44-year-old has been placed in the role until the end of the season following Graham Potter's sacking last weekend, just two years after he was sacked at the end of his first spell as Blues boss.
Lampard led his first training session on Thursday with players generally seeming pleased with the appointment, especially those who had thrived under him before such as Mason Mount.
Terry wrote 'good luck mate' in response to Chelsea's tweet announcing the appointment, which led to fans urging the former England captain to join Lampard's staff at Stamford Bridge.
'Join him Captain,' wrote one, while others urged Chelsea to 'get the band back together' as they 'need Terry on the sideline as well.'
The pair did enjoy a lot of success together on the pitch, winning three Premier Leagues, four FA Cups and a Champions League in their 14 seasons together with the Blues.
Terry has also revealed recently that he would be willing to return to the club where he spent 29 years as a player.
Speaking to snooker legend Stephen Hendry before Lampard's appointment, Terry said: 'I'm done from a managerial point of view.
'The only job I'd come out of retirement for would be the Chelsea job, to be involved in some capacity in the first team.'
He also admitted to feeling 'deflated' after going for jobs in management and being turned down for them.
For Lampard, the decision to return to the club where he has achieved much of his success in football seemed equally straightforward.
Speaking to the media moments after Chelsea officially confirmed his return, Lampard said: '[It was] a surprise in terms of you never know the decision the club are going to make.
'But it was easy decision for me, this is my club. I'm also a very practical person.
'I've been on a different path since I left Chelsea but to come back when I've been asked and I come back with a belief that I can help until the end of the season.
'I'm delighted to get the opportunity and I'm thankful. I've a good understanding of the squad, the training ground, the stadium and the fans and I'll do my best.'
The Blues will next be in action against Wolves on Saturday, before a real test for Lampard when they come up against Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League quarter final next Wednesday.

Avoid Koulably,RLC,Cucurella,Sterling as your starting eleven. Gut feeling that Chelsea will bounce back under Lampard. They will surely give RM a run for their money, but the gap amongst top 4 is very big. Chelsea will finish 7 or 8 th at best.

Imagine Lampard making history by grabbing a surprise attack and winning the Champions League, that will be a shocker 😂😂, I guess Tood will then struck him with a ten year contract......

Chelsea and tye board are confused. The same Lampard they threw out for underwhelming performance and also kicked out at Everton that they are recalling are relying on. He can't perform any magic. Europe Is not within the reach of Chelsea in the coming campaign

“This is the make-and-break career in my personal opinion for Frank Lampard in the English premier league. By now if he cannot get it right u suggest he invest in a poultry farm .”
