Jordan Henderson jokes with Liverpool team-mate Mo Salah over Real Madrid tweet

Jordan Henderson has joked with team-mate Mohamed Salah that he 'did not mean to say [we've got a score to settle] in post-Champions League semi-final tie tweet.

Salah's first Champions League final in a Liverpool shirt ended in heartbreak after he was forced off inside the first half after a strong challenge from Sergio Ramos. Jurgen Klopp's side then went on to lose the game 3-1.

Following Liverpool's victory over Villarreal and Real Madrid's sensational comeback against Manchester City, Salah took the time to send out a tweet insinuating the Reds were out for revenge in Paris.

'We have a score to settle,' he wrote.

Now, speaking ahead of Liverpool's meeting with Real Madrid in Paris, a rematch of the 1981 and 2018 finals, Henderson has joked that his team-mate did not actually mean to 'say that'.

He told reporters: 'We've had a few laughs about that [the tweet], to be fair. He didn't mean to say that, did you, Mo?'

Turning serious, Henderson then said: 'No, I think to be honest, I can understand from Mo's point of view, it was a very emotional time for him to come off in that game in the way he did and get injured.

'It was tough for him, it was tough for all of us, so I get it. But, for me, you don't need anymore motivation than a Champions League final.

'That's all the focus is on. Going [to Paris] and performing. That's all we dreamt of as kids, to play in big games and it doesn't get much bigger than a Champions League final.'

Henderson went on to suggest that it does not get much bigger in professional football than playing against Real Madrid in the final of the Champions League.

He said: 'It doesn't get much bigger than a Champions League final against [Real] Madrid. We know it'll be really tough, they're a fantastic side. World class side. World class players all over the pitch, so we know we need to be at 100 per cent if we're going to have any chance of winning.'

Bullishly ending his response, Henderson declared his side ready for Saturday's season showpiece and said that they were ready to 'give it...everything' in the French capital.

'But that's always the case in football, and this is no different. We're ready and we'll give it absolutely everything in Paris.'

Meanwhile, Henderson went on to declare Liverpool's sixth Champions League win in Madrid in 2019 as the 'biggest' moment of his career to date.

He said that he has that 'motivation' to make it seven for the club and to get that feeling back.

'Winning the Champions League in Madrid was the biggest moment in my career, for sure,' he said.

'We missed out and went close the year before and it was a really emotional time for me. It is number one for me in my career so far, and I have that motivation to get that feeling again.'
