Juan Mata has scaled back his regular blog amid Manchester United's current struggles, saying 'it isn't really a time for posts.'

United, who host Mata's former side Valencia in the Champions League on Tuesday, suffered a third defeat in seven Premier League games this season when they were beaten 3-1 at West Ham on Saturday.

And Mata wrote on his blog on Monday: 'Today, my blog post is shorter than usual.

'In fact, it isn't really a time for posts. I want to thank all of you who support us during these tough times. I understand your frustrations.

'The upcoming game against Valencia is a special one for me, but above all it is another chance to get back to winning ways.'

Mata entered the fray in the 71st minute against West Ham as a replacement for Anthony Martial but couldn't prevent United from suffering another morale-sapping defeat.

The 30-year-old has made six appearances for United so far this campaign, during which he has scored one goal and provided one assist.

The Valencia game represents an opportunity for United to respond but there continues to be a considerable amount of speculation surrounding the future of manager Jose Mourinho.

United commenced their Champions League campaign with a 3-0 victory over Young Boys last month but will be under much scrutiny as they take on Valencia.

Mourinho has been unable to get the best out of his players on various occasions this season and a defeat to Valencia would surely push him closer to the exit.
