Reports have linked Mathys Tels with a move to Tottenham Hotspur if Harry Kane moves in the opposite direction and seals a move to Bayern Munich
If Harry Kane is to swap Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the Allianz Arena this summer, Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham are going to have some job on their hands trying to replace the striker. Scoring goals for fun ever since breaking into the first team and going on to become Spurs' all-time top goalscorer in the process, the England captain will be a major loss to the Lilywhites if he is to head to Bayern Munich.
Drawing comparisons with Kylian Mbappe, Tel has been tipped for an incredibly bright future in the game. Blessed with pace and adept at using both feet, the France Under-19 ace can play through the middle and on both wings, thus giving Postecoglou plenty of options if he is to seal a move to north London.
So what have others in the game said about Tel? football.london takes a look below.
“He’s very comfortable playing through the centre, as a striker or second striker,” he explained in an interview with Kicker, as reported by Bavarian Football Works. “When Mathys cuts in from the left, he can get in goal scoring situations a bit better. He’s got everything that a really good attacking player needs.
“Mathys is very ambitious, hard-working and has a great mentality. He works even on his days off. We all know what kind of potential he has. Mathys has everything to become a very good player. If he continues this way, he’ll have a great future ahead of him. We will build him up bit by bit."
"He could become one of the best strikers one day. I have the vision that he can score 40 goals a season one day. But I would be happy with 10 goals in his first season," he said (via Buli News).
"He's a young, talented player. He can play in multiple positions: as a centre-forward and on the wings. He's very quick and strong with his body. He can hold up the ball well with his back to the goal."
“He’s a good footballer, he’s had more playing time with us than at his previous club," he said (via Bavarian Football Works). "He’s doing well and developing well. But there are still some things he needs to work on. He will certainly soon reach the point where he gets even more playing time."
“There are a few things, its just not age," explained the former Chelsea boss. "Age is relatively uninteresting. It is a question of whether you are doing him a favour by starting and putting him under pressure of being a saviour. There has to be a continuous path into the starting XI.
"From the last impressions, I am not sure he will walk straight into starting XI. But maybe I will change my opinion on Sunday.”
“We can see the qualities he says. He’s got an explosiveness and is really good at finishing. He needs to keep those," said Tuchel, as reported by Bundesliga.com.
“He’s got a youthful freedom when he plays and drive that we need to channel properly so that he understands what to do when and what not to do. But he’s done well a few times as a substitute.”
“You can’t tell he’s only 18,” said the German international (via Bavarian Football Works ). “He is physically strong, fast and has a great shot. His development is very good. I enjoy playing with him.”
