Jurgen Klopp has finally met the man he stole from under Tottenham's noses as Luis Diaz arrived at Liverpool's Kirkby training ground on Friday to begin life as a Red.

Liverpool swooped in a £37.5million move for the attacker from Porto, after Tottenham had made a breakthrough in negotiations and thought they were going to land the 25-year-old Colombia international.

On Friday, Diaz arrived in Liverpool and was caught on camera being greeted by Klopp and his assistant, Pepijn Linders.

Conversing in a mix of broken Spanish and broken English, Klopp proudly booms 'muy bien' (very good) to Diaz after giving him one of his trademark hugs.

Klopp was coy over whether Diaz would feature in Sunday's FA Cup clash against Cardiff and signalled he was prepared to be patient for the new man to adapt to Liverpool's style of play.

Speaking in his Friday press conference about his new signing, Klopp said: 'Luis, so let me say it like this, if he would now come, step on the pitch and would be immediately at his absolute best and playing better than all others, that would be really strange.

'Because we worked together for a while, that needs time, of course, that he adapts to it. But that doesn't mean I don't speak about [him for] four or five months or whatever.

'I didn't even see him yet, so he was not here at the training ground – maybe we should wait a little bit!

'We are really happy and excited about the signing. It's just a really good sign that we work on all fronts to improve this team.

'How it always is in football obviously, we have to be successful now and in the future, so he can help with both. That's a really good thing.

'We signed him because we like pretty much everything about him, that's how it is. I followed him now for a while, not only since we played them twice in the Champions League.

"He's an exceptional player. He has the speed, he has the skillset, he has the character to have a really good career. We all want him to have this career here with us. That's it.'
