Juventus tells Manchester United that Kalulu is not for sale

According to the Manchester Evening News, Juventus has informed Manchester United that Kalulu is not for sale. The French defender is valued at around £42 million, and Manchester United has been monitoring him.

Over the past two transfer windows, Manchester United has invested over £150 million in attacking and midfield positions. In the summer of 2025, they signed Cunha, Mbeumo, and Sesko to strengthen their offensive options.

Under Carrick, Manchester United also heavily invested in midfield, with Tielemans, Andrey Santos, and Baleba joining from Aston Villa, Chelsea, and Brighton respectively. Defense is now considered the next priority, and Kalulu has therefore been linked with Manchester United.

However, reports from Italy claim that Juventus has no intention of selling Kalulu. Juventus signed Kalulu from rivals AC Milan for just over £12 million after he spent the previous season on loan.

Juventus reportedly considers Kalulu too important to sell. Manchester United had been linked with the center-back and was considering a move in the January transfer window, but Juventus hopes to tie him down to a new contract.

Kalulu has also been linked with Liverpool, who signed his French teammate Jacquet this summer.

While Kalulu's natural position is center-back, he has played multiple roles at Juventus. Under Spalletti, he was even encouraged to push forward and participate in attacks, either from center-back or from right-back.

Liverpool did not sign any defenders in the summer window. They were strongly linked with Newcastle United left-back Lewis Hall, but Newcastle United was unwilling to sell.

Liverpool's hopes of signing Lewis Hall were further dashed when he signed a new contract, keeping him at St. James' Park until 2031.

Manchester United took a gamble by not signing a left-back, despite having only Luke Shaw and Doku available at the time. Given that Doku was primarily used as a winger under Carrick last season, it was widely believed that Manchester United lacked sufficient depth at left-back.

The lack of defensive reinforcements worried former Manchester United captain Gary Neville. Before the transfer window closed, Neville stated: "They have some good individual defenders, but it's not a complete back four. Once the defense is under pressure and there are a few more injuries during the season, problems will arise.

"Michael knows this very well now. If they can sign another center-back and a full-back before the transfer window closes, it will help avoid those known problems."
