Kalvin Phillips has 'over 3' transfer options on table to end Man City nightmare

Kalvin Phillips is at the centre of a major transfer race, with more than three clubs chasing his signature next month.

Phillips will be allowed to leave Manchester City on loan in the January transfer window, having struggled for game-time at the Etihad Stadium. City paid £43million to sign him from Leeds 18 months ago, but boss Pep Guardiola has been left unconvinced.

The midfielder has featured just four times in the Premier League this season, for a total of just 89 minutes. He also did not start when first-choice defensive midfielder Rodri was suspended for clashes with Wolves, Arsenal and Aston Villa.

With his place in the England squad for Euro 2024 at risk, Phillips is now going in search of game-time. According to The Athletic, Juventus have already notified City of their interest in the 28-year-old.

Newcastle are also weighing up a move for the midfielder, as they look to replace the banned Sandro Tonali. Fellow Premier League club Crystal Palace are another of the teams to have made an enquiry.

According to ESPN, a move to Juve appears to be further advanced, with City in talks with the Serie A giants. Terms are yet to be agreed, with Juve hopeful of securing Phillips on loan until the end of the season.

Other clubs are thought to be interested in signing the England international, though they have not been named. Phillips himself appears to have accepted his immediate future lies away from the Etihad.

"I know that I need to be playing games and competing every weekend. I'm going to have to make a decision on [my future] over the next months. Gareth [Southgate] just says that for me to keep my spot I have to be playing games," he said earlier this season.

"That's what I want to do. I have agreed with Gareth on that. I want to play football and want to play as much as possible. It's something I am going to have to think about. Hopefully my chance does come but if it doesn't then I will have to make other decisions as well."

Guardiola is yet to decide if he will sign a replacement for Phillips if the midfielder departs. The City boss has hinted he could so with Kevin de Bruyne still ruled out with injury.

"Kalvin is a player with us, I don't want to anticipate absolutely anything. Everyone knows the situation he has. It depends if it happens. If it happens we talk. The market in January is not easy… We still have incredible things to play for, and after we decide," he said.

"Right now I don't have anything in my mind. It depends if they leave or don't leave. Some players stay, some players leave. It depends on the squad, it depends on young players and if you can rely on them or not in some moments."
