Kalvin Phillips has reportedly picked up a mystery injury which looks to have ended his time on loan at West Ham United.
The 28-year-old midfielder joined the Hammers on loan from Manchester City in January in a bid to show off his value to Gareth Southgate ahead of Euro 2024, but he has struggled with the east London side.
And now it seems that he has played his last game for West Ham, which probably spells the end of his hopes of making the cut for the England squad this summer.
The Athletic report that an unspecified injury has made Phillips unavailable, and West Ham and Man City are currently in discussions about where he will receive treatment.
West Ham play Chelsea on Sunday and Luton Town next weekend - but Phillips would not be eligible to play against his parent club on the final day of the season.
It means that his time at the Hammers is likely to end with three starts in appearances in claret and blue.
Phillips would have hoped that the loan move would have proven to Southgate that he should be included in England's plans for the Euros, and increasing on his 31 national team caps.
On his West Ham debut, he gifted Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke the ball for a third minute goal, whilst on his fourth outing for David Moyes, Phillips was sent off after two quick-fire yellow cards.
Last month, it was reported that Leeds United were looking to acquire Phillips on loan next term, if they are promoted to the Premier League.
However, they will have to earn their way up to the top-flight via the playoffs, after Ipswich Town claimed the second automatic promotion spot on the final day.
Manchester City will look to sell the midfielder on a permanent deal, and are asking for £30m having signed him from Elland Road in 2022.
West Ham, who sit in ninth place in the Premier League table, travel to Mauricio Pochettino's Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.
