This was supposed to be a slam-dunk trophy season for Harry Kane. He can't have envisaged that his first year bidding for silverware at Bayern Munich would be nearly as tough as it was at Tottenham.
After a crushing 1-0 home defeat by lowly Werder Bremen on Sunday - their second in five games - the reality sinks in. They are now seven points behind Xabi Alonso's high-flying Bayer Leverkusen side at the top of the Bundesliga, albeit it with a game in hand.
But Leverkusen look nigh-on unstoppable at present after clinching their fifth straight win at RB Leipzig, sealing a 3-2 victory in stoppage time. When it looked like it might not be their day, they found a way.
Bayern, on the other hand, look as though they are crumbling from within.
Manager Thomas Tuchel went 'full Mourinho' after their dismal defeat to Bremen, claiming the team were not training well and that they were not playing for the victory.
'That is our responsibility,' he fumed post-match. 'I'm also tired of saying that we're training well. Nobody believes that anymore.
'I've been doing the job long enough to be able to judge whether the training was at the level we want it to be. This has really been the case for many weeks.'
'For over 70 minutes I didn't have the feeling that we were playing for victory. Afterwards I noticed it. Not until there.
'We were extremely static in the first half. We lost a lot of the ball, allowed a lot of counterattacks, and were sloppy in possession. Deserved defeat!'
Kane must be in disbelief that it has already got to this point, especially given that he has enjoyed a superb campaign from a personal standpoint. He has scored 22 times in 18 Bundesliga games - 24 in all competitions - including three hat-tricks.
When he joined Bayern from Tottenham in a £100million deal last summer, the minimum expectation was that he would lift the Bundesliga - given that the club have won it for the last 11 years running - and there was talk of winning the treble in his first season too.
That dream is already dead after Bayern lost the German Super Cup to Leipzig before being sensationally dumped out of the German Cup second round by third-tier minnows FC Saarbrucken.
The club are still in the Champions League and have a favourable draw in the next round against Lazio, but their chances of winning the trophy seem slim considering reigning champions Man City are still involved, as well as Real Madrid and PSG.
Of course Bayern could still finish the season with two trophies but many would have expected more from a team with a front line of Kane, Sane, Coman and Musiala.
Meanwhile, his old team Tottenham are enjoying life with the shackles off under Ange Postecoglou as they bid for a top four finish in the Premier League.
Spurs' own hopes of ending their 16-year trophy drought don't look too bright either, but the football under the Australian has looked excellent, even if they haven't always had the right results to match it.
Mail Sport columnist and host of It's All Kicking Off podcast Chris Sutton even claimed Kane could be jealous of the season Spurs are having under Postecoglou and that he should 'come home' amid Bayern's struggles.
'Listen, I'm going to stand by what I said,' Sutton said. 'I think Harry will be looking at what's gone on at Spurs, watching their brand of football. I think there's a bit of jealousy there. Bit of jealousy, Harry.'
His co-host Ian Ladyman added: 'Harry, you've got to come home mate. You're out of the German Cup. You've got to come home. You're not going to get your medal at Bayern. Come back to Tottenham, mate.'
Ultimately Kane is in it for the long haul at Bayern and was never just jetting off to Germany for a one-season trophy haul before doing a 180 and heading back to England.
He'll have lots of opportunities to claim his first piece of silverware this season and beyond. If he left Munich having failed to win one then there may be substance behind talk of a 'Harry Kane curse'.
Kane is often talked about as one of the greatest current-era players to have never lifted a trophy after a dismal record when it comes to winning silverware.
The England captain - now 30 years of age - has been involved in 13 semi-finals and finals during his time in the game without claiming any success.
That includes a 2-0 loss to Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final of 2014-15 - his breakthrough season - the 2-0 Champions League final defeat to Liverpool in 2019 and the Euro 2020 final defeat on penalties to Italy in 2021.
Kane also has also suffered a torrid run of form in those big games - netting just three times across all the semis and finals, with just one striker in his last six appearances in either game.
Fans were quick to poke fun at Kane and Bayern following their latest defeat on social media on Sunday evening.
One supporter said: 'Nah. Kane curse is so real,' while another added: 'The Harry Kane curse is real....' before they added a meme mocking the forward.
Another account shared: 'I love him, but what in the Harry Kane is happening at Bayern right now? Was our Harry the curse all along?
'They have arguably the best striker on the planet scoring bucketloads, yet sit 7 points behind the leaders Leverkusen and out the domestic cup. The flying f***!'
One other user shared a fascinating statistic that linked the England captain with his Bayern team-mate Kingsley Coman as they said: 'Harry Kane has never won a title in his career and Kingsley Coman has never gone a season trophyless but one of this records will be over this season as both players are now teammates.'
Bayern will hope the 'so called' curse is put to bed changes with a more experienced team that boasts more quality players, though as far as their league hopes are concerned, Kane is unlucky that his side have ran into an in-form Leveruksen outfit who are a major threat to their hopes of winning a 12th straight title.

Thomas Tuchel is the major problem. He is the curse for Bayern. He is far from being a good manager for Bayern. He should go now for the betterment of the team

Kane was the problem at spurs . If one was to look back over the years and look into the cup finals that spurs take in Harry Kane as never score not even one goal.the year when l city won the epl title spurs need to beat or Evan a draw against west ham to join l city or to go top of the epl table, Harry Kane couldn't score a goal. In the champion league against Liverpool, Harry Kane was out for 5 weeks injury, and what he did he rush back from is injury knowing dam well that he was not fit to play in a champion league final and what he did he bully pochotino the put him in the starting line up àgainst liverpool he didn't touch the more than 3 times. by saying this abòut Kane, i am not saying that he is no good. in fact he is one of Ènglànd best if not the best what i am saying he is too eager to score and always find himself too deep, so when get the ball he havent got the speed to go away from defenders

Hansi Flick is no longer the German squad manager, so I think he has to come back and fulfill Bayern dreams

Bayern should terminate Thomas Tucheal. otherwise, this team will destroy soon. It's important for bayern to bring hansi flick or someone else to lift the champions League as well as Bundesliga

Instead of acknowledging the Xavi Alonso led Leverkusen revival, the media is focused on Bayern and Kane. football is evolving, better managers are rising and we should appreciate that and give them credit for winning.

Which kind rubbish article is this. Has Bayern not lose the title before? You people should let him rest. He’s doing well and Bayern will carry the trophy at the end of the tournament
