In the World Cup group stage, England defeated Panama 2-0, with Kane scoring one goal and becoming England's all-time leading World Cup scorer with 11 goals.
Kane scored the 2-0 goal with a header in the 68th minute—without wearing the captain's armband.
He only seemed to realize the armband was missing when celebrating the goal. He had apparently left it in the locker room during halftime. Shortly after the goal celebration, a staff member quickly retrieved the armband from the locker room and put it back on him. He is now England's all-time leading World Cup scorer with 11 goals, surpassing Gary Lineker's previous record of 10 goals.
In the 84th minute, Kane was substituted and handed the captain's armband to Jordan Henderson.
