Roy Keane has criticised Cristian Romero for his distasteful celebration following Manchester United defender Harry Maguire's own goal in the clash Tottenham.

United were leading the game 2-1 with 20 minutes to go when Sergio Reguilon's cross - intended for Romero - was bundled in by the United skipper to hand Spurs a big equaliser.

Maguire would go on to have the last laugh as Cristiano Ronaldo then completed a hat-trick to give the Red Devils a 3-2 win in a crucial battle involving the top four race.

Watching the replay after Maguire's own goal, Romero can be seen taunting the England international by laughing in his face, and Keane admitted as a rival player it is not something you forget.

'Not good, no, no, no,' Keane reacted on Sky Sports.

'You remember. When you're a player you take note of that, don't worry. You take note of that.'

Keane has been known to condemn the performances and attitude of Maguire in the past, and even pre-match he hit out at the 29-year-old for wearing gloves during the warm up.

However, despite the defender's own goal, Keane admitted that it was something Maguire cannot be judged upon.

Keane said: 'You just can't be too critical of Maguire.

'I've been critical of him, but he's doing his best, it's an honest mistake. These things happen in football.'

The former Manchester United captain also praised his former team-mate Ronaldo for being the difference in the Old Trafford Premier League encounter.

Speaking after the game, Keane said: 'That's where United are at. We've seen the quality of both teams wasn't that great, but it was entertaining and Ronaldo stepped up to the plate. He looked angry today, a lot of aggression in his play.'

'Whatever's gone on in the last week of two, he's obviously upset with something. But he showed today what we've seen over the years, the guy's a genius. He's brilliant.

'He brings so much to this team. Why do people think Ronaldo can't play in this team or that he can't add value? The performance wasn't fantastic but they got the job done and won it.'
