Milos Kerkez was one of the standout performers for Liverpool in their 3-0 Champions League win over Marseille on Wednesday night, and the left-back has responded to a fan's apology

Milos Kerkez has replied to an apology from a Liverpool fan after his outstanding display against Marseille in the Champions League. Kerkez played a vital role in helping the Reds secure a commanding 3-0 win over the French club in their league phase clash on Wednesday evening.

Hugo Ekitike believed he had put Liverpool ahead in the first half, only for the goal to be disallowed for offside, before Dominik Szoboszlai broke the deadlock with a clever free-kick just before half-time.

Liverpool sealed the victory with an own goal from Marseille keeper Geronimo Rulli and a stoppage-time finish from Cody Gakpo, with the result propelling the Reds up to fourth spot in the Champions League league phase table.

Kerkez was among the standout performers for Liverpool in the triumph in France, which prompted a post on X - formerly known as Twitter - from a fan account about the left-back, reports the Liverpool Echo.

“Accept my apologies Milos Kerkez,” the post said. “I was way too quick to judge you. I can see now why you were voted the best left back in the Premier League last season.”

Kerkez then replied to the post on Wednesday night, with the Liverpool defender taking just over half an hour to send his response.

“It’s ok bro, critics give me even more fuel,” Kerkez replied, along with by a red love heart emoji and a red circle emoji.

Liverpool's upcoming fixture will see the Reds face Kerkez's former club, Bournemouth, in the Premier League this weekend.

Arne Slot's team will travel to the Vitality Stadium on Saturday evening, and it's yet to be determined whether the Liverpool manager will give Kerkez a start against his previous employers.

Prior to the victory over Marseille, Kerkez outlined how he feels he has developed in recent weeks following his £40million switch from Bournemouth last summer.

“I feel when I came here, I think every player needs time to adapt because you come to one of the biggest clubs in the world,” Kerkez told reporters on Tuesday. “I got help from everyone, from the boss, the players, the staff, from everyone.

“I think in the last month or so I have improved in a lot of areas, but I am still not satisfied. I want more and everyone will help me to do it.

“(I’ve learned) a lot (from Robertson). We talked a few times. Robbo is a legend here at the club, a big player, did a lot of stuff for the club, won trophies.

“For me it is a privilege to be next to such a player. I am just taking it in, I’m learning, listening always. I just want to improve.”
