Kerr to leave Chelsea after six-and-a-half years

Chelsea have announced that Sam Kerr will leave the club upon the expiry of her contract at the end of the season.

Kerr joined the Blues from Chicago Red Stars and won five Women's Super League titles during her six-and-a-half-year spell with the club.

The striker also lifted three FA Cups, three League Cups and the Community Shield with Chelsea, while scoring 115 times in 157 appearances across all competitions.

Kerr will play in her last game on Saturday, when Chelsea take on Manchester United, and two goals would see her become the club's outright top goalscorer.

"When I reflect on my Chelsea career and doing it for the last time [against United this Saturday], I just feel happy," said Kerr, reflecting on her departure.

"Happy that it happened, and I feel so grateful to have played for this club for six years and won as many trophies as we could."

Since Kerr made her WSL debut in January 2020, only Khadija Shaw (81), who has been linked with a move to Chelsea, has outscored the Australian (64) in the competition.

Kerr became the first player to plunder 20+ goals in back-to-back WSL campaigns, doing so in her first two full seasons in 2020-21 (21) and 2021-22 (20).

The 32-year-old missed half of the 2023-24 season and the entirety of the 2024-25 campaign with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, and she has made just four league starts this term.
