River Plate and Boca Juniors will play their rearranged Copa Libertadores final second leg at Real Madrid's Bernabeu stadium on December 9.
Fifa chiefs are understood to have asked the Spanish FA if they can host the game after violence from fans forced the second leg to be postponed twice.
The match between the two fierce rivals was abandoned last Saturday after River fans attacked Boca's team coach on their approach to the Estadio Monumental ahead of kick-off.
Plans for the showpiece final to be played on Sunday also fell through with CONMEBOL determining that Boca's players were not in a fit state to play given the circumstances and following a request from the club to postpone the tie.
Boca also demanded the second leg be held at a neutral venue in light of the serious attacks which left several of their players with injuries and still may refuse to play in the rescheduled match.
A meeting between CONMEBOL president Alejandro Dominguez and club chiefs took place this week to work out a plan with Qatar and Paraguay initial favourites to host the match.
Qatar purportedly made a huge offer to CONMEBOL to take the final to Doha but it has been confirmed that the Bernabeu - 6,237 miles away from Beunos Aires where the second leg was supposed to be staged - was the preferred destination.
Organisers also decided that the match will be played on December 9 - which is just 9 days before the Club World Cup semi final the winner will play in.
The second leg of the match is finely poised at 2-2 with Al-Ain, Team Wellington or Esperance de Tunis awaiting the winner in the semi-final. Real Madrid, Kashima Antlers or Guadalajara are on the other side of the draw.

They shouldn’t even play the match. Imagine the riots and fighting that’s going to break out in Argentina. Violence is inevitable. People are going to almost definitely be injured or in worst case, killed. They should cancel it and hand over the trophy. That would be an honest punishment for River after the way the Boca players have been harassed and hurt. Handing it over would be the best solution to hopefully stop violence before it even happens.

River Plate just lost their once in a lifetime chance of beating Boca at River Plate's home ground in the Copa Libertadores finals all because of the fans' rowdy and unacceptable behaviour. The crowd will now be equally divided and River will not have the home advantage. It's good for Palacios because he is joining Madrid in January and he'll get a taste of playing there and winning the greatest South American trophy and what a place to do so.
