Klopp explains Liverpool half-time tactic change that helps secure win

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed a formation change at half-time was key to securing victory against Manchester City in the Premier League.

Klopp's men entered the interval with a two-goal advantage after Fabinho and Mohamed Salah found the back of the net. The first goal was embroiled in controversy after replays showed Trent Alexander-Arnold handle the ball in the area prior to Fabinho's strike.

Liverpool returned from the break in a different shape and Klopp admitted the formation change was tactical to sure up their defence.

The German also acknowledged Liverpool's third goal came as a result of the switch that attempted to contain Man City.

"We changed the system," he told Sky Sports. "First and foremost, we defended.

"They did a couple of things and we felt in a 4-4-1-1 we could them defend better. We had clear wings then.

"We had Sadio [Mane] left and [Jordan] Henderson right - that's how we scored the goal that was a relief.

"It was to control them better in these places. We had good moments in the first-half to score more, we were really in the game.

"We are not surprised that City had moments, or more, against us. For us, it's completely normal."

Klopp also highlighted what Liverpool needed to do to get three points against the team that pipped them to the title last season.

He pointed to the Champions League tie in 2018 at the Etihad Stadium as a prime example.

Klopp added: "The Champions League game in Manchester, after two minutes, looked like we would score eight. But we won 2-1.

"I don't know a lot of ways to beat City. But if we want to do it, we have to do it with intensity.

"We have to force them to play our game. That's what the boys did today."
