Jurgen Klopp has explained why he responded to the "cheeky" Manchester United fan who sent a letter to his Melwood office asking the manager to make Liverpool lose.
The German boss was grinning as he told his pre-West Ham press conference that he found the letter "smart" and a "good idea" while revealing he tries to read every letter that arrives on his desk and respond to as many as he can too.
In this instance, Klopp was handed a letter from 10-year-old Daragh Curley who lives in County Doneghal, Ireland, suggesting Liverpool winning too many games was making him "sad" as a supporter of United.
The Liverpool manager responded with a heartwarming reply and explained why he sent the message back on Friday afternoon.
He said: "Daragh!
"So, we had time, that helps in that moment. I cannot answer all the letters I get in a day, and I get a lot. It was nice, it was cheeky.
"I read the letter and I replied and, how the world is now, I get a letter, I respond, and the next day it's in the newspapers.
"I don't like that too much but all fine, all fine. I have no problem with supporters of other clubs, I know it's a free world so we can choose our club.
"I don't think everybody has to be a Liverpool fan but I like working for Liverpool and I like the rivalry we have but I love even more if we can keep that on the pitch.
"Apart from that, they can be happy and we can be happy and I hope Daragh is now happy. He looked like on the picture I saw later!
Klopp was then asked about what in particular stood out in young Daragh's letter.
"Cheeky," Klopp added.
"10 years old, which I think is a nice age when you should start being cheeky.
"And it was smart as well! I thought it was a good idea. We try to respond to as many as possible but it's just not possible.
"We are, in the moment, in a positive period and that means the letters are pretty much all friendly.
"But I still cannot reply to all of them but try as often as possible. I think the people know that.
"They write most of the time: 'I know you cannot respond, I know you will not respond'.
"I read them, nearly all.
"I don't open though so somebody read it before and gave them to me.
"There are a few which are not that nice that I don't see!
"It's all cool, people know that I cannot respond to all of them."
