Jurgen Klopp is already looking to the future having announced his new deal to stay with Liverpool until 2024.

The German named five young players in the club's academy who are on the cusp of breaking through and playing for the first team.

With Liverpool boasting a settled side and enjoying an incredibly rich vein of form over the last two years, it is tough to foresee too many changes, but Klopp is willing to give youth a chance.

'In the moment we have four fantastic players really close to the first team: Rhian Brewster, Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott and Neco Williams, plus we have Caoimhin [Kelleher] as a goalkeeper,' he told the club's website.

'That’s five boys who I would have no problem to line up tomorrow if needed.

'Curtis now had his first [Premier League] minutes and of course they have time as well to develop, but that’s four or five and we want to increase that number in the future.'

The philosophy is clear for the Reds and the club are looking to create a solid pathway that gives academy players a genuine belief that they're chance will come.

The manager continued: 'With Brexit and stuff like this then things will change, and for the youth departments as well – where can we get the players from?

'So these players need a perspective and they need to feel ‘if I go to Liverpool then I have the best chance compared to all the other top six clubs’, for example, to make my first steps in the Premier League.'

As Klopp mentioned, Jones is already starting to increase his playing time, coming on in the 3-0 win over Bournemouth.

And Rhian Brewster has long been considered an accomplished striker with a promising future. The 18-year-old right-back Neco Williams has been with the club since he was eight and Kelleher was the penalty hero against Arsenal in the last round of the Carabao Cup.

Elliott is still just 16 and joined from Fulham in the summer. He has been named with Jones and Williams in the Club World Cup squad but the rest of the academy group will fancy their chances of selection for Liverpool's upcoming game against Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup.

Klopp's new four-and-a-half-year deal, announced on Friday, will take his tenure at the club to nine years in total if he sees it out the contract.

Having led the team to the Champions League crown last season and front-runners for the Premier League this term, more silverware seems to be on the horizon and it will be reassuring to fans to hear the manager speak openly about his plans to nurture the next generation of Liverpool stars.
