Klopp reveals he was so drunk he didn't notice Dortmund 2012 title celebrations

Borussia Dortmund's sensational 2011-12 season will live long in fans' memories but not in Jurgen Klopp's, as he was too drunk to 'notice' the celebrations.

Now heralded by many at the best coach in the world thanks to his Liverpool revolution, Klopp made his name at the top level with Dortmund after joining in 2008.

Inside three seasons he turned BVB from bottom-half strugglers to 2010-11  Bundesliga champions, ending a six-year trophy draught before backing up their success by dominating the following season with a league and cup double.

Klopp, who although not teetotal has now given up drinking beer, admitted he went a little overboard in his celebrations.

'The way we celebrated was very original. It was like becoming a champion in the A-Class Northwest,' he told the club's Twitter account.

'It was a really great celebration with all the zipping and zapping. There would be no such thing today. It was simply sensational, a great party.

'I was heavily drunk in 2011, but in 2012, after the double, I didn't really notice (the celebrations). You can see what alcohol does to people.

'Do not drink, otherwise, you will lose the memory of important moments in your life.'

Dortmund stormed to the league title that season, finishing eight points ahead of the usually dominant Bayern Munich, beating their rivals 5-2 in the DFB Pokal final.

Klopp had a squad packed with talent at his disposal, with Robert Lewandowski finishing the league's top scorer on 24 goals while playing alongside Mats Hummels, Mario Gotze, Ilkay Gundogan and Shinji Kagawa.

The German coach lasted three more seasons at Dortmund before walking away at the end of his contract in 2015 following a disappointing seventh place Bundesliga finish, signing up to start his Anfield journey later that year.
