Klopp says Liverpool's players insisted Henderson lifts the PL trophy

Liverpool's players have insisted Jordan Henderson lifts the Premier League trophy despite their captain missing the remainder of the season with a knee injury.

Manager Jurgen Klopp delivered a positive prognosis after Henderson limped off with a knee injury in their win at Brighton on Wednesday night.

The midfielder doesn't require surgery and though he'll miss Liverpool's final four games in the title-winning Premier League season, he should be fit in time for next season.

Liverpool will receive the trophy after their final home game against Chelsea on July 22 and Klopp has said Henderson will get his hands on it first - even if his trademark 'shuffle' may not be possible.

'Get him out of the tracksuit? I don't know yet, we will do everything that is possible to do it the right way,' Klopp said ahead of Liverpool game with Burnley on Saturday.

'We will find a solution that shows the respect absolutely for what he did. It will be difficult for him to start the match [against Chelsea] but Hendo will be there and he will wear the match kit and everything will be fine.

'All the boys want that by the way, they all want him to be there and that was one of the first things I heard.

'When we knew the injury is not as serious as we really thought, for all of us it is big relief because we really thought, for the role he played for the last years now, he deserves to be in that spot at that moment.

'Virgil [Van Dijk] told Hendo: "The shuffle, you can do the shuffle again". I am not sure if he is able to do the shuffle now, but that is the biggest of the problems.'

There is precedent for this at Liverpool. In 2001, club captain Jamie Redknapp missed all three of their cup finals through injury. He was persuaded by his team-mates to lift the FA Cup, but wasn't involved in the League Cup and UEFA Cup trophy lifts.

Perhaps the most famous modern example was Chelsea captain John Terry wearing full kit to lift the Champions League trophy in 2012 after he was suspended for the final.
