Kylian Mbappe ‘angry’ as saga enters new phase

L’Équipe are reporting that, whilst Kylian Mbappé (24) is publically maintaining a façade of serenity, behind the scenes, the France captain is “angry” at his current situation at Paris Saint-Germain.

Mbappé has been “smiley and enthusiastic” whilst he trains on his own at PSG’s new training camp. The rest of the squad are halfway across the world on a pre-season tour of Japan and South Korea. Following his refusal to trigger a one-year extension in his contract, Les Parisiens have taken a hardline stance. Determined not to lose the world’s most valuable player on a free, PSG want to sell the France captain this summer. Mbappé is uninterested in extending, but nor does he want to leave the Parc des Princes this summer. Internal sources at the Ligue 1 champions believe that the player already has an agreement to join Real Madrid in 2024.

Mbappé stance has angered the club’s hierarchy. The player himself is also reportedly “angry” with the ongoing situation, and he feels no obligation to do the club any favours financially.

Meanwhile, the saga, which began earlier this summer with a letter informing PSG’s hierarchy that he wouldn’t trigger the extension, has now entered a new phase. Thus far, Mbappé has been free to change his stance regarding the one-year extension. However, the 31st July was the deadline for extending. That date has passed without any signature.

The dynamics of his tussle with PSG have now changed. As reported by L’Équipe, this morning, offers from Chelsea and Real Madrid are expected with PSG keen to sell, and it is now a question of how far will PSG go to force Mbappé out. Will he be left out of the first matchday squad Lorient on 12th August? Should he remain beyond the end of the summer transfer window, which closes on 1st September, will he be left out of Les Parisiens’ Champions League squad, which is due for submission on 4th September?
