According to L'Équipe, despite recent controversies, current FIFA President Gianni Infantino is still seeking re-election, and former Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger may also become a candidate. The 77-year-old FIFA Chief of Global Football Development has not yet made a final decision on whether to run. After several people urged him to stand, his decision is expected to be announced in the middle of next week. Wenger, who had previously been hesitant, now appears increasingly close to running.

Wenger's profile is seen as an important asset for the camp opposing Infantino's re-election. With his standing in international football and extensive coaching and management experience, he enjoys great prestige in Africa and Asia. In addition, Wenger has no UEFA background, which may make some national football associations more willing to support him. Some FIFA executives are also urging him to run.

If he decides to run, Wenger, given his age, could serve only one term. Meanwhile, Kozo Tashima, honorary president of the Japan Football Association, has announced that he will stand in this election to challenge Infantino.

The FIFA presidential election is scheduled to be held on March 18 in Rabat, the capital of Morocco.
