Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez rejected 'lucrative offers' in order to remain at the club, chief executive Giuseppe Marotta has revealed.

Martinez was heavily linked with a move to Tottenham but ended up staying at Inter.

As reported by goal, Tottenham reached an agreement with Inter over a £60million deal for Martinez as Nuno Espirito Santo was eager to secure a deal, while Atletico Madrid were also reportedly interested in signing him.

'Lautaro is a player who explicitly asked to stay at Inter, despite receiving other lucrative offers,' Marotta told DAZN.

'We are proud of that, he wants to prove himself a champion here and we are very happy that he can continue his growth process at this club.'

Martinez, who has two years left on his contract, is eager to remain at Inter as they look to win the Serie A title.

Retaining the services of the 23-year-old is a major boost for Inter, especially after they lost Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea this summer.

Last season Martinez scored 19 goals in 47 appearances for Inter across all competitions.

Inter have also been linked with a move for Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram, who could cost £25million.

On Saturday Inter started their Serie A campaign with a 4-0 victory over Genoa, with Milan Skriniar, Hakan Calhanoglu, Arturo Vidal and Edin Dzeko scoring.
