Laporta makes his grand entrance

Just 11 days after being elected as Barcelona's new president, Joan Laporta is already on board in his new role.

On Wednesday the 58-year-old was sworn in at the Camp Nou, and his arrival has been a breath of fresh air at the club.

Laporta accrued 55 percent of the members' vote, but perhaps most importantly he has been warmly welcomed by those in the club's dressing room.

Gerard Pique, Sergi Roberto and even coach Ronald Koeman used their social media accounts to publicly welcome their new president.

"Congratulations Joan Laporta," penned Sergi Roberto. "Let's hope this will be a journey full of success! I wish you the best! Come on Barcelona!"

Pique made a nod to Laporta's first hugely successful stint at the club.

"We were very happy. Let's be that again," he wrote. "Congratulations Joan Laporta. Come on Barcelona!"

There have also been a number of displays of affection between Lionel Messi and Laporta in recent days, particularly during the latter's inauguration ceremony where he hugged the Argentine.

That will no doubt give hope to the club's fans that their little genius will remain in Catalonia.

He gave a crisp, direct message - without reading from notes - that signalled a complete break with the past, a move that will have pleased the club's followers.

The club is breathing new air

Laporta has set about creating good relations with the player group and the fan base.

Now he must build on his promising start by taking good first decisions.

At least for the moment - despite all the club's many problems - he has got off to a good start.
