Leeds United have confirmed the signing of Nigerian defender Leonard Ngenge, with the centre-back joining the club’s Academy after putting pen to paper on a contract that will run until the end of the 2026/27 season.

Ngenge makes the move to West Yorkshire from Nigeria, where he featured for Remo Stars FC. Despite his young age, the defender has already gained valuable first-team experience, making seven appearances across all competitions for the Nigeria Premier Football League side during the current campaign.

Highly rated for his composure and defensive awareness, Ngenge has also tasted international football at senior level.

He earned his debut for Nigeria last year in a fixture against Senegal, before going on to register another appearance against Sudan, underlining his rapid rise and growing reputation in Nigerian football circles.

Leeds United believe the acquisition of Ngenge aligns with the club’s strategy of identifying and developing promising young talents from across the globe.

The Nigerian defender is expected to further his development within the club’s Academy structure, where he will be closely monitored as he adapts to English football.

In a statement, the club expressed delight at completing the deal and extended a warm welcome to the youngster as he begins a new chapter in his career at Elland Road.

With this move, Leonard Ngenge becomes the latest Nigerian prospect to take a significant step towards European football, as Leeds United continue to strengthen their youth ranks ahead of future campaigns.
