Leeds United are monitoring developments with Red Bull Leipzig midfielder Tyler Adams after his club said he could leave.

Leeds are looking for an extra midfielder to cover Kalvin Phillips' pending departure to Manchester City.

Jesse Marsch's side also want another goalkeeper and striker while former Leeds coach Marcelo Bielsa is in line to re-join Athletic Bilbao.

Adams, 23, was a fairly regular feature for the Bundesliga side in the 2021/22 campaign as they finished fourth in Germany’s top tier to qualify for the Champions League.

He is also a player Leeds manager Jesse Marsch knows well too, being a United States international and played under new boss at Leipzig for a brief period.

Marsch has already taken advantage of his links within the game to bring in Brenden Aaronson, Rasmus Kristensen and Marc Roca.

USA international Aaronson, 21, and Kristensen, 24, both put pen to paper on deals at Elland Road having worked with the American manager at Austrian champions Red Bull Salzburg.

With a bid also tabled for PSG's 20-year-old striker Arnaud Kalimuendo, Marsch's targets so far suggest that he is opting for youthful approach as he puts his stamp on a squad he inherited in late February.

He could now look to use his links once again to try lure Adams to the club to bolster the midfield, especially given Phillips potential departure to join champions City.

It's claimed City are keen to secure a deal in the region of £45million - £50million for Phillips, with the combative midfielder's current contract at the West Yorkshire club expiring in 2024.

Sportsmail understands that both City and rivals Manchester United are interested in signing Phillips, but the blue half of Manchester appear to have edged ahead in the race for his signature.

Phillips came through the Leeds academy after joining the club at the age of 14 and has cemented his place as a club legend amongst supporters as he helped guide the club back to the Premier League.

A mixed 2021-22 season saw Phillips frustrated with game-time as he struggled for fitness with a hamstring injury at the end of 2021, seeing him spend a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

However, he returned to play a vital role in his club's late season run-in as Leeds avoided relegation on the last day of the season.
