Leeds star Jansson reveals gruesome eye injury from Preston win

Legendary Leeds captain Billy Bremner used to have a motto: 'Side Before Self, Every Time'.

And current Whites defender Pontus Jansson embodied that outlook on Tuesday evening when he picked up a horrible eye injury during their win against Preston.

The Swedish centre back went up for a header in the last five minutes of Leeds' 2-0 Championship win at Deepdale.

Unfortunately for him, he accidentally headed the back of Preston striker Lukas Nmecha's head in the process and went down to the ground, requiring immediate treatment.

Jansson was treated on the pitch by Leeds medical staff and was eventually given the nod to carry on before completing the game.

While he played on, his left eye continued to swell, which limited his ability to see for the rest of the game.

Leeds' Twitter account offered a seal of approval for Jansson, tweeting: 'When you put your body on the line for the win' before adding the hashtag '#SideBeforeSelf'.

Jansson's team-mate Mateusz Klich then replied with a joke: 'I wish Pontus could see this tweet'.

The 28-year-old then replied with a series of eye emojis and a selfie showing the swelling as Leeds travelled back to West Yorkshire.

Leeds won the game courtesy of a Patrick Bamford brace and moved back into second in the Championship as a result.

They face Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday and will hope that Jansson's eye recovers in time.
