Kasper Schmeichel would jump at the chance to complete a 'dream move' to Manchester United, according to the goalkeeper's former team-mate.

The Leicester City goalkeeper is a reported target for the Red Devils this summer, in a move that would see the Danish shot stopper following in the footsteps of his father and United legend Peter Schmeichel.

And Mikkel Bischoff, who played alongside both Peter and Kasper at Manchester City in the early 2000s, believes Schmeichel Junior is good enough to hold the number one shirt at Old Trafford.

Bischoff told Danish news outlet Ekstra Bladet: 'United will certainly not be deterred by his (Schmeichel's) age of 33 years.

'The most successful goalkeepers at the club in recent years have been well into their thirties. He can easily play three or four good years there.

'Schmeichel is a huge United fan. He always has been and always will be, it will be the biggest dream come true if he were to succeed (in joining United).'

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is well-stocked in the goalkeeping department, with Spanish shot stopper David De Gea the current first-choice option at Old Trafford. But the 29-year-old has been critcised by fans and pundits for making glaring errors throughout the 2019-20 Premier League season.

Furthermore, young English goalkeeper Dean Henderson, who has spent the last two seasons on loan at Sheffield United, has been tipped to be De Gea's long-term successor between the sticks at Manchester United.

If Schmeichel were to swap Leicester for Manchester this summer, his first-team opportunities would be extremely limited, though Bischoff does not think this would be a worry for the 33-yera-old.

The former defender added: 'If Kasper gets the opportunity to play just ten games for United, then he jumps.

'It's simply so big for him. He is such a big fan that he will do anything to get to that club.'

Schmeichel has been at Leicester City since 2011 and has made nearly 400 appearances for the Foxes since his arrival at the King Power Stadium.

During his time at Leicester, the 33-year-old has won the 2014 Championship title and the 2016 Premier League title.

The 2020-21 Premier League summer transfer window is open until October 5, with the first match of the season beginning on September 12.
