Leicester defender Wout Faes has revealed how he turned down a move to Chelsea earlier in his career, and how he was bizarrely sent a signed David Luiz shirt from the Stamford Bridge club.

The 24-year-old was the Foxes only outfield signing of the summer in what has been a tough season for the club so far.

In an interview with the Guardian, Faes has revealed how he could have joined Chelsea at just 16-years-old, and how the Blues tried to lure him with a signed shirt of their former Brazilian defender.

In response to why he got a signed Luiz shirt, he responded: 'We have similar hair so maybe that is why. Since then, people who I don’t really know always ask the same questions.

'I can understand it because he was a very big player and he’s played for almost all of the big teams in England but for me it’s important to make my own name.'

He added: 'They (Chelsea) called me and they wanted to have me but I never really thought to go, because I knew at Anderlecht I was [in a] very, very good [place].

'Maybe if I had gone there, maybe I would have got more money but that was not important.

'I never thought: ‘I should have gone to Chelsea.’ I have no regrets to not have signed there.'

Over two stints at Stamford Bridge, Luiz made 248 appearances and was part of the sides that won the Champions League in 2012, and the Premier League in 2017.

Faes, who has made one appearance for Belgium, joined the Foxes for a fee worth £15m from French side Reims.

After missing Leicester's opening few games, he has played the full duration in defeats to Tottenham and Bournemouth, as well as their 4-0 victory over Nottingham Forest.

Faes has had a tough start to life at the King Power, making a mistake in their 2-1 loss to Bournemouth at the weekend which released Dominic Solanke, who saw his shot parried and tucked  home on the rebound by Philip Billing for the equaliser

Brendan Rodgers' side are bottom of the table and will be hoping to climb the table when they play Crystal Palace at the weekend.
