Leipzig chief confirms Szoboszlai transfer interest as Arsenal set to miss out

RB Leipzig chief executive Oliver Mintzlaff has confirmed the Bundesliga club's interest in highly-rated midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai.

RB Salzburg star Szoboszlai has been heavily linked with clubs across Europe thanks to his eye-catching displays in Austria in recent seasons.

Arsenal are believed to be one of the 20-year-old's principal suitors as they aim to reinforce their limited options in attacking midfield.

But reports from Germany earlier this week claimed Leipzig are in pole position to sign Szoboszlai from their sister club.

And Mintzlaff admits his side are keen to bring the Hungary international from one Red Bull Arena to the other.

“He is someone we find very interesting,” Mintzlaff told  Sky Sport Germany.  “I can say that we are concerned with him.”

But the Leipzig CEO was tight-lipped when quizzed on whether the deal for Szoboszlai could be completed before Christmas.

He added: “You can gaze into a crystal ball and know more than I do. We are not the only ones [who are interested].”

Szoboszlai made his senior Hungary debut last year and has netted three goals in 12 games for his country.

The most-recent of these came against Iceland last month, when the youngster's stunning free kick steered Hungary to a 2-1 win over Iceland to send them to next summer's Euros.

After his winner, Szoboszlai said: "There were four defenders in front of me, then I just thought I'd shoot from 20 yards in the last minute. Thank God it went in!"

The player, who came through the ranks at Salzburg's feeder club Liefering, is believed to have a €25million (£23million) release clause.

Szoboszlai netted 12 times in 40 games last season and looks poised to have his most-productive campaign yet, with eight goals in 19 appearances this term.
