Lennon: Interviewing players at halftime is absurd

Lennon criticized Arsenal star Bukayo Saka for giving a halftime interview.

Saka's halftime break was interrupted when Sky Sports, the match broadcaster, pulled him aside for a brief interview. Premier League rules allow pre-arranged halftime interviews with players at the club's discretion. However, not all players and fans support such televised interviews. Aaron Lennon is among the critics, having openly expressed his opposition to the broadcasting rules that permit them.

The 39-year-old former player voiced his displeasure on social media during the second half, writing: "Players having to answer questions about the game at halftime is an absolute mess."

Fans who responded to him clearly agreed, with one calling the halftime interview “American rubbish.”

Another commentator added: "Totally agree, pointless."

However, Saka himself appeared unfazed by the interview during the break. The segment lasted approximately 30 seconds before he returned to the locker room.

When asked for his thoughts on the match, he said: “It feels good to start the new Premier League season in front of our fans at the Emirates. I think we played a great 45 minutes.”

"This is the Arsenal we want to see this season. I'm enjoying the game and looking forward to the second half."

He added: "We want more. We want to score more goals. That's the attitude we'll come out with."

Arsenal's strong performance continued into the second half, with Martin Odegaard scoring the team's third goal just eight minutes after the restart to secure victory in their opening match of the season.
