Les Ferdinand will be given the opportunity to state his case to become the FA's new Technical Director with the interview process starting imminently.
The FA are keen to appoint Dan Ashworth's successor before the end of the year and have spent the last month whittling down a number of applications for the post, which is based at St George's Park.
They now have a four-man shortlist and the most profile figure is Ferdinand, who held initial talks about the post in September. The 51-year-old was visible at St George's Park last week when attending a Director of Football conference.
He faces a stern challenge, however, from Mark Warburton, the former Brentford, Glasgow Rangers and Nottingham Forest manager, who has admirers within the FA; Warburton has also been linked with Burnley, who are similarly eager to appoint a Technical Director.
There is a candidate from within the FA and that will be Matt Crocker, who is currently the Head of Development Team coaching and has worked closely with Ashworth. Kevin Thelwell, the Sporting Director of Wolves, completes the list.

That's Sir Les to you lot, from a United fan. Tragically his mum never got to live to see the day when her son was well off from all her hard work taking him to football matches and training.

Mark Warburton! Mr Soundbite, plan A but no plan B, just a monotonous soundbite with no original idea whatsoever about the game of football.
