Leverkusen respond to Chelsea interest in Liverpool and Man Utd target Havertz

Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller has responded to talk of Chelsea launching a £75million bid for Kai Havertz.

Chelsea are reportedly set to target Havertz in a second transfer raid on the Bundesliga, with the West London club also set to sign Timo Werner from RB Leipzig.

Havertz is regarded as one of the best young attacking midfielders in Europe, with the 20-year-old having attracted interest from Liverpool, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

And he is bang in form, having scored five goals for Leverkusen since the return of the German top flight, although he was left out of the squad for Tuesday's 3-0 DFB Pokal win over Saarbruecken.

Leverkusen chief Voller says he expects plenty of interest in Havertz "if he plays like this now" - although he maintained the club were "in a good position" and still hoped to hang on to the Germany international.

"We haven’t given up hope that he’ll stay with us," former Germany Voller told ARD, in quotes reported by Metro.

"We try to give him every possibility that he can call up his qualities.

"He did an outstanding job in the second half of the season."

Chelsea hope the lure of being able to team Havertz up with his Germany teammate Werner will help them land the attacking midfielder, according to the Daily Mail.

Werner is expected to sign for Frank Lampard's side after they offered the RB Leipzig star a £200,000-per-week deal.

The signing of Havertz - who like Werner can also play as a centre forward or a winger - would give Chelsea an impressive array of attacking options along with England stars Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount, and winger Hakim Ziyech, a £38m signing from Ajax.

But Chelsea will have to splash out to land their target, with Havertz expected to cost at least £75m to add to the £52m the club are expected to spend on Werner.
