Jesse Lingard's brother has blasted Manchester United for apparently preventing the midfielder's move to Newcastle with huge loan demands.
The 29-year-old outcast has barely played for the Red Devils this season, with several Premier League sides interested in signing him before the January transfer window closes on Monday.
But United have reportedly set eye-wateringly high demands for a temporary switch to the Magpies, leading Lingard's brother Louie Scott to compare his sibling's situation at Old Trafford to that of a prisoner.
Scott posted on his Instagram account a year to the day after Lingard joined West Ham on loan, with a picture of the United academy product celebrating a goal for the Hammers.
The caption read: 'A year ago today he was 'allowed' out on day release,' followed by three cry-laughing emojis, with 'Now we know what Akon felt like,' written underneath the image.
American-Senegalese artist Akon's lead single from his hit debut album was 'Locked Up', a track containing the lyrics: 'I'm locked up, they won't let me out'.
Lingard joined West Ham on loan in January 2021, having not played a single league game that season for United, and played a starring role in David Moyes' side qualifying for Europe - scoring nine and assisting five in just 16 appearances.
With plenty of interest after that successful loan, former United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer persuaded him to stay and fight for his place but froze him out, with that situation unchanged despite the arrival of new manager Ralf Rangnick.
Lingard has played 88 minutes in the league and made two starts in all competitions this season, but United seem intent on making it tricky for him to leave despite reported interest from Newcastle, West Ham, Leicester, Everton and Aston Villa.

If he doesn't go. trouble will be in the team during the upcoming days and he will be right. let him go, simple. you can't keep someone against their will and you are not playing them.

Not the best outcome for Lingard or van Beek I agree it's not doing there career's any favours BUT if you sign a legal contract for 2,3,4,year's your obligations are tied in to the terms and conditions of the contract. If the terms of the contract are being honoured and no conditions broken. There's no need for outside parties (IE:) Family, friends, local doctor, priest, vicar's, or even the nursery school teacher. Newcastle are now reputedly the wealthiest club in the land if they want him that bad then they'll have to agree terms JUST like Lingard agreed terms when HE signed for United.✍
Oh because Newcastle is the richest club now they should spend all their money on your outcast player, Keep him till the end of session and see if he walk out free or not or think they can lie to him so he sign another contract with the way he get treated let’s wait and see who lost

I absolutely agree 100000000 percent. After call, it is the ONLY thing that holds our ENTIRE western society together; people honoring their contracts. With that said, this fiasco will deter people to want to sign with the team. "If I sign a contract with them I am screwed." Look at TH, you think any one WANTS to sign with them, specially after the Harry Kane issue? Now, someone may say the same thing about ManU. "If you become second fiddle ManU will promise you playtime, only to lie to you and not let you leave." Who in the ACTUAL in the ACTUAL world would want to join that??? If ManU didn't pay ridiculously high wages, i don't think they'd get many to sign with them. Again. look at TH. I'm sure a player look at these situations before signing on to a team. I would. Wouldn't you?

You are perfectly right. When you sign a contract the terms and conditions must be followed. But ask yourself what did he sign the contract to do? If you won't give him chances to play the football he signed up to play then your side of the contract isn't fulfilled. Since the league started this season 88 minutes. What wrong did he do and you keep him like a prisoner as his brother said. If i were him i would force my way out permanently. Don't forget he was lied to by ole for playing time which never came.

Pretty selfish of Man U, totally destroying any chance of him playing in the World Cup, I am a West Ham fanatic but on a non bias thought let the lad play and give him support for the England squad, on another note happy to see Man U see West Ham as a threat and so they should!!

Lingard want to be in England team for World Cup. I doubt he'll be called for England duty if he keep warming MU benches this year.

United's plan for Kingard is to make him the most sought after bench-warmer in football.

This isn't good from our management, players who are not playing regularly should be allowed to go instead of killing their talents on the bench. J Lingard and VDB are examples. They re not treating them well.
