Lisandro Martinez will miss Argentina's tour of Asia this summer to concentrate on getting fit for Manchester United's pre-season.

The World Cup winners are scheduled to play Indonesia and China in June but Martinez wants to ensure he is recovered fully from a broken metatarsal which has curtailed a stand-out first season with United.

The 25-year old is progressing in his rehabilitation since fracturing the fifth metatarsal of his right foot against Sevilla in their Europa League tie at Old Trafford in April and is targeting a return for pre-season training on July 12.

His absence has been sorely felt in this season's run-in and Erik ten Hag will be keen to have the combative Argentine back in his squad ahead of the new campaign.

The United boss wants to have all his key players, including new signings, available for the start of summer training to give him the best chance of launching a proper assault on the Premier League title.

United have the likes of Tottenham's Harry Kane, Declan Rice of West Ham and Kim Min-Jae at Napoli on their list of transfer targets and as, Mail Sport reported last month, want to shed up to 13 players from a bloated playing staff.

Phil Jones, Axel Tuanzebe, Eric Bailly and Ethan Galbraith are among those leaving this summer with the futures of Anthony Elanga, Harry Maguire, Brandon Williams, Fred and Aaron Wan-Bissaka to be determined too.

Goalkeeper Dean Henderson wants to leave to play regularly once he recovers from thigh surgery while Jack Butland, on loan from Crystal Palace, is discussing a potential move to Rangers.
