Liverpool 4-3 Salzburg: Salah rejects visitors' epic comeback in 7-goal thriller

Liverpool surrendered a three-goal only to prevail 4-3 against a resolute Red Bull Salzburg as Jurgen Klopp's side kick-started their defence of the Champions League in chaotic fashion at Anfield.

Salzburg fought back from three goals down at Anfield but Mohamed Salah had the final say in a 4-3 win for Liverpool.

Mohamed Salah stuck twice as holders Liverpool survived a major Champions League scare to defeat Salzburg 4-3 at Anfield.

Sadio Mane, Andrew Robertson and Salah goals had seemingly put Jurgen Klopp's side in complete control in what was their first European game on home soil since triumphing in last season's competition. 

They were left stunned, however, when the visitors responded via goals from Hwang Hee-chan, Takumi Minamino and substitute Erling Haaland.

But Salah's seventh goal of the campaign with 21 minutes remaining got the Reds out of jail as they got up and running in Group E.

GOAL! Salah makes it three! Mane gets away down the left before floating a cross in towards the near post. Firmino flicks the delivery towards goal, forcing a good save from Stankovic, but Salah is free in the box to fire in the rebound from a few yards out.

GOAL! Salzburg pull one back! After sloppily losing possession, Mwepu plays the ball into Hee-Chan down the left side of the area. The striker beats Van Dijk after cutting back onto his right foot before unleashing a fierce right-footed effort into the bottom right corner.

GOAL! Minamino pulls another one back! Hee-Chan skips away down the left wing before hanging a cross up for Minamino. From the edge of the area, the Japanese international fires the delivery beyond Adrian and into the bottom left corner.

GOAL! It is all square! Minutes after coming on, Halaand gets on the end of Minamino’s cross from the right side of the penalty area before poking it into an empty net from only a few yards out.

GOAL! Liverpool lead again! Fabinho hooks the ball high into the air following a tackle, and Firmino is able to flick it on from the edge of the box. Salah is quickest to react and curls a left-footed effort into the bottom left corner from the penalty spot.
