Thierry Henry has revealed that Jordan Henderson is the first player from the Liverpool team he speaks about while talking to aspiring football stars.

The Liverpool captain scored the first goal in a brilliant 4-1 victory for Jurgen Klopp's side in the Merseyside derby against Everton.

Henderson, who wasn't rated highly at the start of his Liverpool career, has spent a decade with the club and was the man who lifted both the Premier League and Champions League trophies for the Reds in recent seasons.

After the game, Arsenal legend Henry revealed that he is a 'massive fan' of the England midfielder.

Henry told Amazon Prime: 'He reminds me of Gareth Barry, James Milner. I remember when he started I didn't think he was going to be the player that he is.

'He's not the guy you mention first when you talk about Liverpool. But I do and I do with some young kids.

'You can't all be Mo Salah, you can't all be Messi but if you work hard, work ethic and your mind is in it and you are professional you can become Henderson and become the guy who lifts the trophy.

'Obviously for a long time Liverpool was waiting for that Premier League trophy - he was the guy.

'Liverpool winning the Champions League - he was lifting it and I know not a lot of people will mention him but this is the guy you can try to copy.

'It's difficult to copy Mo Salah, it's difficult to copy those guys and people talk about those guys but I'm a massive fan of him.'

It was an impressive night's work for Liverpool who kept the pressure on Chelsea and Manchester City above them in the league by scoring four goals for the third league game in a row.

Henderson assisted Salah's first of two goals on the night, while Diogo Jota added a brilliant fourth.

Former Everton player Leon Osman said: 'He's a managers dream. He really is. He'll play deep, the six, sit in front of midfielders.

'I think sometimes players have that in them, rather be part of a big machine rather than be the standout player.

'Mo Salah wants to be at the head of this team, Jordan Henderson is happy to lead, motivate, play the six when he's asked, play the eight when he's asked. Play the eight narrow, play the eight wide.'

Fellow pundit Steve McManaman then added: 'The better Liverpool have become the more he's excelled.'
