The two clubs have recorded a maximum return in their first five games, which has not been done in over a century
Liverpool and Chelsea continued their perfect starts to the Premier League season on Saturday, and together have done something England have not seen in over a century.
The Reds opened up Saturday’s Premier League fixtures with a 2-1 win over Tottenham at Wembley Stadium, which made it five wins in five games so far this season for the Anfield club.
Chelsea not only kept pace against Cardiff but, through a 4-1 home victory against the Bluebirds, actually moved top of the table on goal difference.
A perfect start through five games is not unheard of in the Premier League as Chelsea themselves have done it four times, though both of Liverpool’s previous five-for-five came in the old First Division.
However, for two teams to manage it is unheard of — this is first season in Premier League history where a pair of clubs managed perfect starts through five games.
While the Premier League only dates back to 1992-93, it requires a long trek through history to find the last time any English top-flight duo managed it.
The last time it happened was 110 years ago, back in the 1908-09 season. Prior to that it had happened in 1905-06.
More history can be made on Saturday as Watford have also begun the season perfectly, with four wins in four. If the Hornets can deliver another three points against Manchester United, it will be the first time in English top-flight history a trio of teams have managed five wins in five games.
Both Liverpool and Chelsea will face European fixtures midweek, before the Reds try to make it six for six against Southampton at Anfield next week, while the Blues visit London rivals West Ham.
Should both clubs come away with three points, at least one will have their streak stopped the following weekend as they face off against one another at Stamford Bridge on September 29 — after meeting in a midweek Carabao Cup fixture three days before.

Chelsea deservedly knock Liverpool off the top of the EPL table. Have been very impressed with Sarri and Chelsea, think they have performed the best in the EPL so far; they are reminding everyone why this Squad won the EPL 2 years back.

Very impressive display from Chelsea. Their quick passing, forward press, possession based football is good on the eyes. It is still early days, and the Sarriball is gradually taking shape. I expect even better things from Chelsea under Sarri. Now on to the next game, lets make it 6 out of 6.

This is the first time that Watford have started a top-flight campaign with four wins from their opening four games. Will Watford win 5th in a row and join Liverpool and Chelsea?

Good but that's no guarantee for being premier league leaders... the road is still very long... what is sure is that both will drop points and on bad days...

Chelsea have an all-time losing record against 5 teams in the Premier League; ManU, Liverpool, Arsenal, Burnley and Huddersfield!

This record will mean nothing at the end of the season, except the record itself coz non of them shall win the Premiership. Both teams have had a very favourable fixture so far. A good ending is better than a bad beginning. I still expect either of the Manchester clubs to win the league.
