Liverpool are 'ready to pay Gavi's £41m buyout clause this summer'

Liverpool are ready to launch a bid to land Barcelona's teenage midfielder Gavi, according to reports.

Gavi's current contract with the LaLiga side expires in 2023 and has been linked with a number of Europe's top clubs.

Liverpool are keen to strengthen their squad in the summer and they will test Barcelona by offering to pay Gavi's £41million release clause.

That's according to Sports, who claim Barcelona's director of football Mateu Alemany put Gavi's contract renewal talks on hold but told the player he'd get an offer in January.

'Serious talks' of an extension will now get underway but those around Gavi believe Barcelona will offer low figures compared to other players.

The midfielder is keen renew and willing to negotiate but he wants to feel valued by the club.

Liverpool have 'intensified' their efforts to sign the Spain international, who is also attracting interest from Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino as well as Bayern Munich.

Gavi has been in blistering form for Barcelona side this season. He has made 40 appearances across all competitions - with two goals and six assists.

Xavi heaped praise on the youngster following the 4-2 win over Atletico Madrid in February.

He said: 'Gavi is very versatile, and can play in multiple positions. Today, we played with a false winger and a false striker. I was looking for superiority in the midfield.'

'Usually I want true wingers, but each game is a different world, and my decisions are determined by that.'

Barcelona will seek to continue their strong league form when they host Cadiz on Monday night.
