Liverpool 'ask for more time in Werner pursuit as Reds consider €60m offer'

Liverpool 'have asked Timo Werner's representatives for more time' to submit an offer to RB Leipzig.

The Reds want to see how the next few weeks develop to gain a better sense of how the transfer market will take shape from the impact of the coronavirus crisis.

They remain interested in the German international, who has a release clause of €60 million, but have pleaded for more time to assess their options, according to the Guardian.

Before the pandemic put a halt to all football across Europe, Werner seemed destined for the exit door.

And there remains a high chance that he will leave this summer with Anfield his preferred destination.

Chelsea are also thought to be interested, as are Inter Milan but it remains to be seen how distorted the transfer market becomes after clubs have taken a huge financial hit in recent months.

He is eager to sign his next contract away from the Bundesliga and informed Bayern Munich that a move would not be viable.

Werner has scored 72 goals in 118 appearances and at 24 still has his best years ahead of him.

He would be Liverpool's primary acquisition of the summer if they decide to make a move, although some have questioned whether they need to recruit the Leipzig star.

The front three of Roberto Firmino, Mo Salah and Sadio Mane have been among the best triumvirates in Europe and it would appear difficult for Werner to break into the side.
