Liverpool begin talks with New Balance over record kit deal

Liverpool will look to trump Manchester United by commanding a world record when they begin negotiations for a new kit deal.

New Balance have been Liverpool's kit suppliers for almost all of the time that Fenway Sports Group have owned the club but the contract with the US firm, which started in June 2012 under the guise of Warrior, expires in 18 months' time.

The deal was initially worth £25million per year but, after renegotiations, it reached a reported £45m per year.

That figure, though, is dwarfed by the £75m per year United struck with adidas when they signed a 10-year contract.

Chelsea, whose deal with Nike generates £60m per year, Saturday's opponents Arsenal and Manchester City all have bigger kit deals than Liverpool and that is something last season's Champions League finalists are eager to address.

Liverpool have established themselves as one of Europe's leading clubs under Jurgen Klopp and with the majority of the squad all on long-term deals - and the manager committed until 2022 - the indication is it is a position they will hold.

It gives them the basis to negotiate a record deal.
