Liverpool have officially confirmed they will be going ahead with redevelopment of the Anfield Road stand in the near future.
The European champions have made a further commitment to supporters to enhance their famous Anfield stadium, and the stand sitting opposition the Spion Kop is next to go under construction.
Issuing a statement on Thursday lunchtime, Liverpool outlined how the club holds 'intention to redevelop the Anfield Road stand with ambitious new plans now under active consideration.'
The statement adds that Liverpool will seek to 'engage the local community and other key stakeholders while pursuing a vision in keeping with the club's aspirations.'
Existing outline planning permission on the project is set to lapse 'in order to allow work to continue on alternative options with a view to submitting a new planning application for a larger scheme in due course.'
The current Anfield Road stand occupies the away supporters who visit the stadium, along with a full upper tier of home supporters.
At present, the capacity of the ageing stand lies just under the 10,000 mark.
Liverpool FC chief operating officer Andy Hughes said: 'The progress that has been made during ongoing feasibility studies has resulted in us being in a position to allow the outline planning permission to lapse.
'We are committed to working with local residents, planning officials and others as we now focus on the detail behind any proposed redevelopment for Anfield Road.'
