Liverpool facing fresh injury crisis as Sadio Mane suffers hand injury

Sadio Mane was taken to hospital on Monday afternoon after suffering a minor injury that left his hand in a cast.

It hands Jurgen Klopp yet another headache from the latest international break, after Mohamed Salah returned to Liverpool this week with a muscle injury picked up playing for Egypt.

Mane suffered the injury ahead of Senegal's clash with Sudan, and has been pictured wearing the cast on his left hand, but was still able to muster a smile for the camera.

He started in the 3-0 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying win in Dakar on Saturday and set up team-mate Idrissa Gueye for the second.

It also comes after Virgil van Dijk was sent home by Holland because of the same rib issue that caused him to be substituted in last month's win over Southampton.

While in midfield, James Milner, a star performer thus far in 2018-19, was forced off with a hamstring problem in the stalemate with Manchester City before the international break.

Liverpool go to Huddersfield on Saturday evening looking to return to winning ways after drawing their last two Premier League games with fellow league leaders Chelsea and City.

They then host Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League and host Cardiff the Saturday after.

Mane has been eye-catching for the Reds this season, and is their joint top scorer alongside Daniel Sturridge with four goals so far.

Injuries to Mane and Salah could hand opportunities to Xherdan Shaqiri and Sturridge when Klopp takes his side to the John Smith's Stadium this weekend.
